Washington State Bird Watching in Lynnwood

Hundreds of thousands of shorebirds, neotropical migrants and other birds of the Pacific Flyway depend on Washington’s wealth of natural habitats. Some stop here to rest and eat before traveling north, while others stay to nest and raise the next generation. There are many places in the Puget Sound area to view birds.

Edmonds Marsh, located 3 miles West of Lynnwood , is a city owned freshwater wetlands and saltwater marsh.  Over 200 species have been sighted here.  The park is open year round.

About 30 minutes north of Lynnwood in Snohomish is Ferguson Park, a family friendly municipal park by Blackman Lake.  In the spring and winter months look for songbirds in the confers and along the water’s edge on the small dock for water fowl.

For families and beginning birders, head North to Kayak Point County Park.  This 670 park with forest and marine areas is open year round.  Bald Eagles, Common Loons and Pileated Woodpeckers are among the dozens of birds you can view here.

In the Snohomish River is Spencer Island, a 412 acres island estuary surrounded by trees, saltwater and freshwater sloughs.  The area features more than 200 species including year round bald eagles and Great Horned Owls.  Seasonal species also abound. Hiking in Lynnwood Washington is a great way to see all of the local species of birds.
