“Aircraft Radio & Navigation” Presentation by John Somerville
This presentation will explore the evolution of pilot communication and navigation during the Golden Age of Aviation (1920’s to the 1950’s and the advent of jets). Pilots looked outside the cockpit to tell where they were and to communicate with people on the ground. The invention of radio brought them into the cockpit to be able to fly a course and speak to people at airports. These people would become Air Traffic Controllers. This technology was as important to pilots as GPS is today for everyone.
